Activities - Africa Forum
With the Africa Forum 2006, the Wittenberg Center enters into a new stage of "Building Global Cooperation". Numerous projects, which were undertaken in recent years, from ground-work at the individual level (micro-finance) to the top-level policy decisions (NEPAD), initiated a fundamental change in the perception of the continent. The Wittenberg Center now seeks to support these initiatives by highlighting and fostering "Entrepreneurial Spirit".
The documentation of the Africa Forum will be available soon.
"Building Global Cooperation" requires people on all levels of society to be willing and be able to take responsibility and actively engage themselves as well as others in cooperation for mutual advantage. It requires people to take their own future into their hands and assume ownership of the ongoing processes of change.
With the Africa Forum 2006, the Wittenberg Center wants to bring this spirit to a broader audience, link and empower promising initiatives and open-up chances for its further development and deeper impact. It invites representatives from politics, business, academia and civil society as well as outstanding individuals to jointly discuss the role and conditions of entrepreneurial spirit in Africa. At the same time, it wants to offer opportunities for the younger generation to network among each other as well as with experts. They should discuss typical impediments to the development and realization of entrepreneurial spirit and find tangible tools and workable solutions to improve on the conditions which lead to mutually beneficial cooperation in their various areas of influence.
To this end, the Forum combines inspiring keynote speeches and panel discussions of eminent personalities from African, American and European governments and the business world with presentations of "lighthouse projects". These lighthouse projects will provide examples of successful realizations of entrepreneurial spirit in "Public Purpose Capitalism", as Ambassador Andrew Young, Co-President of the Wittenberg Center, terms it. They lend motivation and provide viable know-how for the accomplishment of the next generation of innovative ideas.
